Advising Through Widowhood® is a specialized professional certificate program designed to equip financial advisors and other professionals with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to better serve clients following the death of a spouse. Going beyond technical financial planning, the program explores how grief, cognitive overload, disrupted identity, family dynamics, financial uncertainty, and changing trust can influence a widowed client’s decisions and behavior.
The curriculum integrates grief-informed communication, ethical considerations, financial triage, and practical planning priorities. Participants learn to recognize crisis signals, appropriately pace the planning process, and help clients move toward greater stability and confidence. Graduates also receive ongoing professional resources and may have the opportunity to put their training to work immediately as a Wings for Widows volunteer coach.
